Arab Strap RIP

So after a decade Malcolm Middleton and Aidan Moffat have decided to go their separate ways, bringing an end to one of Britain's most original and consistently brilliant bands.

Tonight the Arab Strap farewell tour visited Kyoto's Club Metro. Ploughing relentlessly through a back catalogue that most bands can only dream of, the Strap reminded the crowd at this tiny venue just why they'll be missed. The highlight of this first hour was undoubtedly The First Big Weekend, which not only got the whole place dancing (no mean feat for a spoken-word track), but also reminded us where it all started ten years ago.

Middleton and Moffat later returned without the band for an acoustic encore that included The Shy Retirer and a stunning (Afternoon) Soaps. It was quite moving at the end and to tell you the truth my eyes were a bit damp.
